Trenches

trenches

I hold not dear immortal dreams.  Hopes ground in promises of youth.

That love lingers, when mortal flesh and soul are parted.

Hollow sentiment.

My heart has died today, and so shall I.

Whether the actual trenches of WWI, or as a metaphor for modern life, tragedy strikes all too frequently.  Heartache is heartache.  That never changes.

  1. Death is the great divide. Well written. There is nothing good to say about being parted from someone who has passed.

  6. "Heartache is heartache" - so very true Valerie. Recently, I had a classmate who was killed in a car accident (he was also the first in our class to pass away). He and his wife were only married for four years and they were trying to start a family. Even though I was not close to him in high school and did not know his wife, it was still heartbreaking to hear the news of his passing. Life can be a cruel and heartless friend sometimes.

    1. Jess-that is so sad about your classmate. It sums up how I feel about situations like that. So senseless, and it always depresses me deeply, even when I don't personally know the people involved. I ache for their families.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment, my sweet friend:)

  12. This gives the heart a good twist. It is so terribly sad, so awful to know our youth die in such conditions.

The whole thing speaks to me, but this:
That love lingers, when mortal flesh and soul are parted.
I never wrote that, but I could have. And wish I did. <3

  17. Well written, but sad and it hints at something else, as well. Like Renae, I hope all is well with you. I've just begun to recover from a nasty flu bug and this was after getting my flu shot:~)
